They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.
Taurus has been very hit or miss for me. Once they were way awesome. That was an ancient .38 they refinished for me gratis; they even sent me a shipping label. I’m 11tieth owner as far as I know. That was awesome. The nickel finish is flaking again(no, I did not oil it)…oh well, it’s been 20 years. Maybe they will awesome up again for me.
Then there is my PT745 MPro. Bought brand new, stashed in the safe while I lit out for the jungle for a year, left in the safe for several more. I finally took it out to the range and found that my never fired brand new old stock safe queen was brokted. They wouldn’t pick it up and shipping a revolver is some expensive. No awesome there. Took a while but I was advised as to how to get it to them and they fixed it and had it back post haste.
More awesome again.
Taurus was a good way to go for cheap halfway decent revolvers. I’d like one of their .22s for plinking about in the desert when on my dirt bike but the new ones are getting pricey.
Patience (like that really helps, lol), but I still think that is going to make an awesome daily carry gun.
