Gotta show you something I got over the weekend…

Faithful commenter Gooch sent it, and when he first mentioned it in an email I blew him off because I don’t own a shotgun. But then I got to thinking, “Hey. Ian’s got that coach gun. I gotta see if this works.”

A little flexibility never hurt anybody

A little flexibility never hurt anybody

Ian and I took a whole series of pictures, which I can’t post because his sooper-cam was set to “file size big as all outdoors” and I haven’t figured out how to shrink them. But I got this one with my own, more modest rig.

With the cost of .44 ammo we didn’t exactly blaze away with it, but we put a few rounds through and it works fine. Rifled insert just slides into one barrel, and hey presto you’ve got a poor man’s combination gun. And judging from the effect on backstops, that extra ten inches of barrel makes a difference.

12 ga? Where do I get the insert and how much? Or do I need a buddy with a machine shop?

Combinations are darn handy to feed yourself. I have a couple of MCA Sports sleeves, one key to accuracy is finding the adapter’s sweet spot (where repeatable accuracy is greatest) and inserting the sleeve there all the time. Makes a big difference.

My sleeves worth with any break open actioned shotgun, but it really helps to have good irons to sight with (vs. no rear sight and front bead only). Up close – really doesn’t make a huge difference unless your animal is small.

    I’m glad you like it.
I have one in 45 ACP with a 16″ barrel and boy does it use all of the power in the powder.
I am hoping that Land Lady can use it on for those feral dogs that are rumored to be running about … ?

Still … I can’t do a thing about the ammo shortage … sure wish I could.

    stay safe,

Thanks websurfing to MCA now. I no idea such things were commercially available.

  6. What lengths do you have to go to in order to get the spent cartridge from the sleeve?

  7. Joel says:

Take this with a grain of salt because only a few rounds were fired, but I was able to get them out with my fingernails. It wasn’t always quick, though.

BTW, I’ve found who made this one and sent a message. If he’s still active and wants a plug, I’ll pass on the info.

  9. gooch says:

He sometimes doesn’t answer the messages at that site he sometimes frequents. A mutual friend probably does have a number for him. Shall I ask?
Just give me a shout and I’ll try to raise him as well.

    stay safe,

That wouldn’t hurt anything, Gooch. If he doesn’t make the product anymore or doesn’t want it plugged, we’ll just keep it to ourselves. But I’ve gotten PMs at the aforementioned site I didn’t respond to for months, just because I never go there anymore. So alternate communication attempts are probably appropriate.

  11. gooch says:

Speaking of a little late with responses …

I will send off the alternate inquiry today.

    More later.

    stay safe,
