*Grumble* Second morning in a row…

100_1721
Today’s supposed to be substantially warmer than the past two days, and then the coming week is supposed to be quite nice. But right now I’m really wishing I hadn’t put my winter socks in storage. And that new Carhartt coat; that would come out of its bag – again – if this blast of winter weren’t supposed to taper off today.

Never got around to bagging up those nice flannel shirts, fortunately, and of course there’s the long underwear. But my one meat foot is explaining how I really oughtn’t to have cleaned out the sock drawer just yet – and what’s with the desert boots, huh? What’s with that? You want cold feet? Because this is how you get cold feet.

Well, foot.

Stupid late-April-almost-May.

Sure happy I kept that tarp on the firewood despite the wind, though. Almost – but not quite – makes up for how idiotically I destroyed my cool digital indoor/outdoor thermometer. Parenthetically, I don’t know what the temperature is outside but the heavy frost and the block of ice in the chicken waterer says it’s cold.

ETA: That’s a major impetus for this summer’s big project – The winter clothing situation has improved remarkably over the past couple of seasons, but it has created another secondary issue. I really need a closet. I’ve got winter clothing stored in three different places, and one day there’s going to be a rat-related calamity Zelda will never let me live down.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

Kill the rats, Joel. Kill the rats. Because never fear, they will find your nice warm clothing no matter where you put it. Unless you put it in something made from metal. A thought: construct a metal box closet liner…..FOMCL Or a more sensible alternative – an all metal footlocker from a surplus store. A pile of all metal footlockers so you can organize your clothes. Spray paint the footlockers different colors to match your bedroom decor and your curtains and rugs. Oh Bwaaahhaaahahahahahahahaha Coffee. I need coffee.

If you need an outdoor temp reading I’ll share ours. When I got up this am at 5:00 it was 16 degrees. Now, at 9:45, it’s up to 56 degrees in the sun. That should melt the 8″ of snow we got yesterday.

is only 83 degrees right now. Almost cold enough to freeze my nuts off!

(Insert evil laugh here) But Joel if it is unseasonably cool where you are at, that means I’m not roasting in Phoenix. So thanks, MJR for sending Joel your weather. (More evil laughing here)

  5. Judy says:

You know Joel, Zelda’s idea of metal footlockers isn’t such a bad one. Not only would it keep the rats out but if you have any wool putting in some cedar or lavender would keep the moths at bay too.

Any time Judy, any time… Bwahahahaha…

I built a fire this morning, but now the sun is heating the house. Chilly, but no blocks of ice.

  8. here in n.e. ohio we have learned not to put everything away as canada is lurking and large cold lakes affect the temps.
also the beginning of flat land west of here is very close and the wind can be biting even on a warm day. we have discovered that we need a jacket if we go to the west end of town in spring or early summer because the wind often carries a lot of cold.
    strange how the microclimates occur.
it is easy enough to keep a pair of boot socks and a few warm layers out of storage.
they are then ready when you need them.
i am finally thinking to put away the snow shovel. made the mistake of putting it away too soon last year [ twice!] but it really clogs up the front hall.
