When it comes to dealing with wildlife, this place has gotten kinda boring. I can only guess that so many people live here now that all the interesting animals have gone elsewhere. Nothing around but coyotes lately. I set my game camera at the same place for the past month and I only get the occasional coyote-on-a-mission passing through, and only at night.

Scary Manifesto that keeps getting pushed down on the sidebar by filthy capitalism!
They say that Louis XIV had the inscription Ultima Ratio Regum cast into all the cannon of the French Army. It means “The Ultimate Argument of Kings,” and that always struck me as one of the most honest and up-front things any ruler or would-be ruler ever said. “We can dress it up prettier than this, but when it comes down to the unvarnished truth this is what it’s about: You’ll do as I say or I’ll send my goons to kill you.”
I thought about that for a long time. If there’s an ultimate argument, it seems only logical that there must be an ultimate answer. For years I thought the ultimate answer must be the bullets in my rifle, but it never seemed quite right. I’ve got bullets – he’s got frigging Cannon Balls. I mean, if there were three hundred million rifles throwing bullets at him, then maybe. But we all know that’s not going to happen. So if there’s an ultimate answer to his ultimate argument, it sure as hell ain’t bullets.
It finally came to me – and that’s when I abandoned the city and most of my stuff, and gave all that was behind me a good stiff Randian Shrug.
The ultimate answer to kings is not a bullet, but a belly laugh.

So no more elk at the water trough anymore either?
I haven’t put a camera at the watering station since the last one got stolen there.
Same here in that many interesting animals, that were not unusual to see almost daily if not seasonally, are much fewer and far between. The last couple of years sees a people population growth here in the woods.
Guess I missed the part about you getting a camera ripped off. Thieves are the …
Haven’t heard about any goats lately.
Has that situation improved?
Didn’t I tell you about that? I should have.
The goat situation resolved itself in a rather final way, I’m afraid. The guy who owned them sat down in his chair after supper one evening and quietly died. His wife – the unhealthy member of the pair – couldn’t take care of them and anyway they weren’t her interest, so she found a home for them. Hopefully a better home. She still has the dogs but apparently is better at keeping them confined because they haven’t been a problem.
