Intelligence Chairman on Iraq: ‘We Have a Very Narrow Window to Get This Right’

No, I didn’t even read the article so can’t suggest that you do so. Just seemed polite to add the link.

So, you guys invaded Iraq when, exactly? And you spent trillions of dollars reducing the rubble to smaller rubble, and you killed a lot of American soldiers and a whole lot of Iraqi civilians and then you got bored and left – and now that the paper regime you pretended to build is falling apart (SURPRISE!) you figure you’ve got a ‘narrow window’ to ‘get this right.’ Uh huh.

Pull the other one.

Depends entirely on what is meant by “get this right.” What is “right” to them? What is right to “us” has absolutely no bearing, of course.

I find it insanely frustrating when so many people say things like, “Well, the US made a mess of things there, sure, but now it is up to “us” to get in there and straighten it out, fix it… can’t just leave it like that.”

Muslims have been killing each other (and everyone else they can get their hands on), in groups large and small, for something like 1200 years. Doesn’t seem possible that anyone could think they could stop that – even an outfit as insane as the US Government – but there it is.

So, one must assume that there are lots of other reasons for the US to get into these “wars.” Naturally, none of them make any more sense, especially for the taxpayer, or all those men and women who are thrown into the meat grinder.

Hey, Barrycade is just doing his bit for economic growth.

  3. Bear says:

(BTW, for those not familiar with Tyler Cowen: He’s a libertarian economic ivory tower asshole professor who believes big governemtn should grow bigger, and he supported the TARP “bailouts”.

    Reality is not his forte.)

  4. Bill says:

He’s wants back in there so that he can continue to hem in Russia and Iran with the missile defense farce.

  5. Often lately I like to trundle out this old quote:

“In our time, political speech and writing are largely the defense of the indefensible.”

To ride on Mama’s coat tails, I think the “getting it right” for the “them”likely consists of ensuring that whichever dictator there is in Iraq:

    – only accepts paper that was printed in america as payment for oil exports (thus preventing those worthless pieces of paper finding their way home, and chasing after real goods and services on the home market). Saddam was talking about accepting Euros for oil, Khadaffi was proposing an actual gold dinar.

-spends lots of money on crappy American crony consultancies and contractors – the ones who bankroll politicians and who give retired politicians and those politicians’ n’er do well kids; underworked and overpaid jobs. Such spending is intended to land the “country” and the “people” in eternal and unservicable debt to American banksters and other cronies.

-does American politicians and banksters dirty-work when called upon to do so.

Do all of those (which can probably be summarized as “be a good vassal”), and any atrocity against ordinary people will be condoned. Fail to do them, and expect to be assassinated, toppled by a coup, or suffer a military invasion.

Bear’s link to zero hedge’s coverage of Tyler Cowen’s keynesian war mongerings are very pertianent.

Keynesians not only like to push the broken window fallacy (destroying wealth (and lives) is supposed to make us richer), they’re also fond of the sunk costs fallacy (throwing yet more money and lives into a worthless hole, on the strength of how much has already been thrown into that hole).

and both neo-cons and cultural marxoids love war – it is supposed to give us all “meaning”.
