Decided to go out to brush-cutting without Laddie this morning, which meant I could do something I’ve wanted to try for some time…

I’ve got a gig trimming roadside brush, which means I’m in and out of the Jeep many times in a session. Not long after starting a job like that you’ll appreciate why postal Jeeps have doors that can slide right out of the way. I took the nuts off the driver’s door hingepins maybe three weeks ago, but then Laddie showed up and this was the first time I ever really went ahead and yanked the door right off the Jeep.
Works okay; the door is kind of heavy but getting it off and back on didn’t pose any big unexpected problems.

So, did Laddie get to try out the doggie yard?
He’s never even been in the kennel yet. I built that for 5-6 hour trips to the big town, not for an errand of a couple of hours. He’s all right in the cabin that long.
Had me a ’84 CJ7 for a few years until it went boom. LOVED taking the doors off and scooting down the road…
We have a ’74 thing that the doors come off and the windows unclip. Much fun, it is.
One of my bosses really rich (lawyer) had an old Suburban as his ranch truck. Removed all the doors (including the rear hatch) and rear windows, cut a hole in the roof and used it as his hunting – fencing – ranch vehicle. I saw it – really cool vehicle, just jump in and hold on if you were on one of the sides. I asked his what did he do when it rained – he told me he didn’t go out in that kind of weather, lol.
