I have seen nothing at all disproving my notion that the one known surviving squirrel getting into my chicken feeder really hates that live trap. And some fairly compelling evidence that it does.

I think maybe I should put a couple of kill traps on the Amazon wish list after all.

I think that little guy could benefit from some lead therapy.
Before you go the ‘throw money at the problem’ route, check out Shawn Woods’ site for a few ideas. https://new.mousetrapmonday.com/category/mousetrap/
In particular I’m thinking you could cobble together something similar to the Tilong Bamboo Trap in this particular video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yWfuuNPhzU
I grok that you probably don’t have any bamboo handy, but a short piece of PVC pipe would make a serviceable substitute, and I’m sure you can find a strong, springy branch somewhere out there in the desert. Just a thought.
I find myself musing about a bucket style mouse trap, only scaled up to squirrel size using a 55-gallon drum or perhaps a garbage can. Even if unsuccessful, the video might be entertaining.
