That, my friends, is the expensive part of my cabin skirting. You’re looking at something like 3/4 of a bale of sandbags, which have languished in the loft of somebody’s barn for forever. I traded it for a very minor labor consideration, and will use it to skirt the rear and two sides of the Lair before this next winter comes. Between that and the new floor insulation, I sincerely hope we’ve seen the last of the frozen toes issue. I’ve only got five of the things (toes, that is,) and they deserve better treatment than they’ve gotten for the past seven frickin’ winters.
Between these, the backhoe and access to the wash, filling enough sandbags to properly skirt the Lair should be no big deal. If I really want to get fancy I can lay them on chicken wire, then fold the wire over the bags and staple them to the Lair’s foundation and stucco over the whole shebang. Such niceties are going to look awfully funny, of course, on a cabin that doesn’t even have siding. But at least it’ll be incrementally warmer this winter.

What are the bags like for UV stability? they may need sun protection pretty quickly.
They’re not terrible for UV, but not great. Just left in the sun, they’ll start rotting through in about four years. Which is one really good argument for stuccoing them.
