I thought I had a 2-gallon reserve can which turned out to be empty because I forgot that the chainsaw also uses gasoline. Then the Monday morning water run got set back to Tuesday which wasn’t good news at all. All the back-and-forth had blown through my gas and there I was, engine gonna flame out at any moment.
I made it – but I’m glad there weren’t any more hills involved than there were, or I wouldn’t have.
I’m going to pour virtually all this into the Jeep between now and the next trip to town, and then fill them up again, because I’m burning a lot more gas than the monthly plan normally calls for. D’s been giving me gas money; I just need to be more diligent about spending it.
It’s never a good feeling when you look at the gas gauge just as the engine starts to sputter. I’m glad you made it Joel..
Whoof! Been there before, running on fumes at destination.
Always carry a full 2.5 or 5 gallon can in the back of my vehicle when taking long trips. Also a gallon of coolant, one of drinking water and bottle of oil, just in case. Also a roll of silicone self fusing tape, in a pinch it can be used on leaks or burst hoses. Been a while but also used to carry a segmented rubber belt that could be adjusted to replace a variety of lengths. Stopped that when my cars moved up in time to “only” 20 years old newer 😉
I keep a LOT of gas here and rotate it regularly.
I am always driving on gas that is cheaper than what the pump charges.
Couple extra 5 GAL cans can be VERY useful to have
Is a switch to diesel somewhere in your future? I understand it stores better than gasoline, as long as you keep the bacteria under control.
Does the e-bike have a trailer hitch? A lightweight trailer would give you some more cargo capacity so you could do a quick gas run in an emergency.
