I can’t pull that pump out of the well myself…

…but I can make it easier than last time.0206151612aLast time the crossbar for the pulley was improvised – at best – and at a bad height and kind of scary. Today 16 feet of two-by gave up life to make things easier and more secure. The crossbar isn’t a permanent part of the building, but its mounts certainly are.0206151612

  1. Nosmo says:

If you connected a cable to the Jeep, could you pull it by yourself?

  2. Ben says:

Will that project happen this weekend?

  3. Joel says:

No, it won’t happen until the week of the 16th. I could conceivably do it myself but the weight isn’t the problem. Attached to the pump is the rope, of course, and also almost 200 feet of electrical cable and flexible pipe which will kink at the first opportunity and must not be permitted to kink. Also, the whole thing absolutely will get cocked in the casing several times on the way up and need to be finessed. It really is a 2-man job at least.

Plus the chance that the problem will turn out to be something I can fix without a trip to the city for replacements is almost negligible, so what’s the point of not waiting? Running water is a wonderfully convenient thing but it’s not a necessity. Being patient and doing no further harm, is.
