…because neighbors kept showing up with heavy drugs. The doctor gave me a prescription for 20 tabs of 800 mg Ibuprofen, which i didn’t even bother filling. Began to regret that within an hour of returning to the Lair, when whatever pain med the clinic shot me up with started to wear off. I figured I’ve got this big bottle of 200mg Ibu, so why pay for a prescription drug that’s just the equivalent of 4 OTC pills?
I’m an amputee, and there was definitely a time when I was not a stranger to pain pills. But that was a long time ago and disentangling myself from the pills was a hassle, so I’ve made a practice of not going near them since. So I’m completely unfamiliar with the current generations of prescription pain drugs.
Anyway, somebody showed up at my door (It occurs to me that all of this is at least mildly illegal, so never mind who gave what to whom) with a baggie of Percocet and laxatives (“Believe me, if you take the Percs you’ll want the laxatives. And they might upset your stomach.”) I took one pill when the pain started getting unpleasant again. At first I was flying the friendly skies – but then I did get slightly nauseous. It was more than enough for just dulling pain, so I figured next time I’d chop the pills in half.
Then another neighbor showed up, and this one had half a bottle of slightly out-of-date Oxycodone. This time I started out by cutting the pills in half, and I’m glad I did. No nausea and no pain, but I’m dragging around like a zombie.
It begins to appear that my chances of actually accomplishing anything today are near zero.

I would have thought some weed would have been a better choice
Yah, but you wqn’t CARE that you’re accomplishing nothing significant. Folks’ particular body chemistry may make a large difference in the effectiveness of some drugs. Anecdote-unrelated-to-anyone-I-know: person A gives to friend B two bitychin’ prescription painkiller pills. Friend B swallows one eagerly. Later: A sez “How’s the pain?” B sez “Terrible, didn’t touch it. But somehow I don’t care anymore. I think I’ll take the 2nd pill.” A: “WHAT? NO! 1/4 of a pill knocks me out all day! You’ll stop breathing!”. B: “Huh.”
Good luck with yer pill regimen. Palliative care is important. Have another glass of water on me.
Good friends and good neighbors just don’t get any better than that. Hope you’re feeling better.
Good call with the laxatives, there are a couple memorable bowel movements in my past. Hope you are feeling better.
Percocet and some of the oxy’s contain acetaminophen. Be very careful to make sure that you are not taking too much acetaminophen (Tylonol) or you will kill your liver and die a rather unpleasant death. epocrates.com has a free online drug reference but you do have to register.
That’s true, R… but he’d have to take more than a few pills, and for longer than a day or two, to damage his liver. I have a feeling Joel is not going to get carried away with this. 🙂 But, just in case you didn’t know, it is very important not to take any of that stuff with alcohol. That’s a very bad combination.
