I was looking for something else when I came upon this conversation from my last trip to the Big City…

…in December 2010…

It was halfway through the car ride when Landlady said, in that tone one uses to broach a possibly sensitive subject; “So…I notice you brought a rifle case?”

“Okay,” I said, “I know I’m being silly. It’s just I don’t feel armed anymore if I don’t know where my rifle is.”

“Oh.”

“I promise not to carry it on the street.”

“That’d scare the hippies.”

“Which would have its own entertainment value, I’m sure. But they’d just call the cops, and when does that get fun?”

“A valid, and possibly important, consideration.”

Yeah, my suitcase kinda clanks. No paranoia here. Uh uh.

On my recent trip to the city, six years after the last one, I only brought a single gun. I can’t decide if it’s a sign of personal growth or deterioration.

Also I figured if I needed a long gun I could probably borrow something classy from Ian.

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

Personally I see it as a sign of confidence in your abilities plus a better understanding of the actual threats of the big city as opposed to the “there’s a monster under my bed” kind. Looks like you are all grown up now. :^)

Been thinking of adding a long gun to the car… Seeing as how the Feds and our local police can’t hang on to theirs, keeping it secure might an issue.

seems fairly concealable. Just a thought.

I got a chance to shoot one of those and it worked all right. As plastic and cheap-feeling as any toy, though, and I came away with grave doubts about durability.

Robert, I’ve been thinking the same, after the BLM riots, & now the new round of idiots. On a bike, of course, I’m down to a pistol, but in the truck, an AR might be handy. Arm brace buffer tube, or just one with a collapsible stock, it’d be a nice truck accessory.

  6. Robert says:

If the folding stock on the Kel-Tec were to “fall off”, you’d have a sorta-pistol-sized gun with more punch than a pistol with more maneuverability than an AR. Just a thought.

I’ve been trying without success (for obvious reasons) to talk my wheelchair clients into twin side-mounted full-auto .30s. Twins for symmetrical thrust and 50s would just flip the chair over. Work has been boring lately…

    Long trip? Long gun!
