This isn’t the very best violence, but it’s an old favorite. Been so long since I shot a .45-70 Springfield I’d forgotten how much I enjoy them. This particular rifle was a literal mantle-hanger so long the stock is actually scorched. Also somebody painted the whole thing brown at some point, and it’s got one of the worst bores I’ve seen in a long time. But it still goes boom just fine, and this morning bullets hit the vicinity of targets.
What were our masters saying about banning “assault weapons?” Here’s one that’s been around a hell of a long time. Mistreated, forgotten, reduced to decor. Still deadly.

Defining the difference between “cover” and “concealment” for over 100 years. 🙂

Joel, I have a 2nd Model Allin conversion Trapdoor Springfield in 50-70 Govt. I don’t shoot it much anymore but it sure is a hoot when I do. Cases are hard to come by but it lasts a long time with light loads and proper care. It has possibly the worst sights ever mounted on a rifle and therefor is really just a smokey noise maker. However, I would not want to get in the way of one of it’s 500+ grain bullets. With the bayonet installed it becomes a long range toad sticker.
