If you’re trying to sell stuff based on links in my posts, …

…First ensure that the post is not mocking those links.

Seems like lately I’m getting a lot of spam emails trying to get me to help people sell things I don’t believe have any value. Latest example…

Reading it I wondered, as I often do, how she could have gone to the trouble of scanning for possibly relevant posts to mention in her unwanted spam, opened the post and noted the link upon which she based her pitch, but completely failed to notice that I was mocking the linked product. Seems odd, that’s all.

And then! Then, just to definitely ensure that my attitude toward her would be not merely dismissive but actively hostile, she added this postscript…

They do that all the time. And I absolutely will not “unsubscribe” to something I never subscribed to in the first place. What I will do is take the time to figure out once again how to block a sender so I don’t have to deal with her follow-ups.

Can anyone explain to me the meaning of the title “Founder and Writer II”? F&W Version I was too ethical to be successful? I wonder if Steph is human.

Aside: had a human-sounding robot call me at work. I started talking dirty to it. It hung up. Then it called again a week later. Unfortunately, the thrill was gone and I merely hung up wordlessly. So sad when a promising relationship doesn’t work out. 🙂 Yeah, I need to get out more.

I’ve run into this as well, but I honestly don’t get the rationale behind the approach. Or they want me to do a review on something that I’ve just blogged on why I don’t need it. I don’t think they read. I think they either scan and assume, or use some sort of crawler software to find key words.

Seems to me we’ve been down this road before . . .

Hey, at least the link to a post on your blog was an actual link to an actual post! When I get those emails more than 3/4 of the time the link to my blog is a link to a month’s worth of posts, or the main page, or the like.

I ignore those emails, till they send a follow up email asking if I got their first email. Then I send them a link to a post on my blog where I expound on the stupidity of such folks. For some reason that particular email never emails me again after that.

    Ruth, that’s a wonderful idea!

Dunno what you’re using for an e-mail client, but mine (Thunderbird) has nice rules where you can set it up to have any given sender dumped instantly into the trash. I think most e-mail apps do.

  7. Joel says:

Yeah, I use it. It contributes to my daily peace. But I always have to figure out how to use it all over again every time.

Does everyone see that juicy mailing address? I wonder how crowded this gang could get that box for them?
