I’m thinking they should probably look for earlier clues…

A ‘sex worker’ shoots one of her clients dead with his own gun: Guy turns out to be an honest-to-god serial killer. That’s the set-up for today’s Quote of the Day. Okay? Now: How could this have been avoided?

An actual police spokesman said these actual words with his actual mouth, I totally did not make this up:

Lt. Cooper called Falls a “bad actor” and pointed out what many sex workers might recognize as a tell-tale sign of a serious problem.

“He made a deal with the victim to exchange money for her services as an escort,” Cooper said. “He brought no money with him. What he brought with his (sic) was a firearm, four sets of handcuffs, and all of the items you have photos of from the trunk of his car. So… clearly his intentions were dark.”

Yes, Lieutenant, that would certainly be an indication of trouble. But by the time you know all these things he’s rolling you into the trunk, and it’s too late to worry. Perhaps something a little more useful? No?

Ed. Note: The fact that we possess and regularly use many of these same items should not be taken as a sign of serial killerhood on the part of any member of TUAK staff or management. Thank you.

Little heavy on the axes, but my car trunk (when I drove one) always had a spade, a machete, wading boots, and a Tyvek Jumpsuit. Saved a few lives with those tools, here on the Texas Gulf Coast. The Tyvek jumpsuit was just to keep my clothes clean, of course. Had a lab coat in there too. I wore a suit and tie to work every day.

Indeed, JC… tools are, well, just tools. A few things come to mind here that might help help prevent becoming a victim:

    1. Have your own gun. Carry it always.

    2. Don’t advertise for sex partners, and don’t answer such ads. Don’t engage in intimate activities with strangers, paid or otherwise.

I just can’t understand anyone being willing to go to bed with a stranger. I’ll bet they wouldn’t buy a used car from the same people, so why is their own life and health of so little value? I just don’t get it.

I could think of quite a few more, but that would cover it for most folks.

I carry all those tools, except the war axe, in my RV. In fact I carry a chainsaw, bolt cutters and long handled pruning shears too.

Take out 20 and 21, ass a double-bit axe, and you have my truck box. I also carry a pair of cuffs to do a quick lock on my lever action. Am I being detained, officer?

  5. Unclezip says:

Add, not ass. I should look at the screen whilst typing…

  6. Tennessee Budd says:

Probably, Unclezip, but it temporarily led to some interesting pondering. “Did he mean un-ass? No, one does not ride an axe, not more than once. Does he have…unusual preferences for an axe? The handle? Seems an unorthodox & awkward carry method. Hmmm….”
I can’t help it. My brain does things like that.
