First noticed it yesterday while servicing Landlady’s batteries. It probably took that twist in last week’s incessant windstorms.

Looking past those stress cracks in the foreground, you can see two fuzzy bolts on either side. The one on the right doesn’t seem to be attached to anything very important…

It was, though. Once upon a time. Real important.
It’s clearly caused more by corrosion than flexing, though the flexing finished the job and I don’t mean last week. This has pretty clearly been this way for some time now. The several days of wind finally wrenched the rack out of true, and things can only go downhill from here. Literally, in this case…
Fortunately we’re not without resources. I’ll sic Weekender Neighbor S, who installs solar power systems, on this case and I’ll bet he can find Landlady a new crossmember.

That rig seems distressingly ready to take wing.
Yeah. 🙁
I’ve been waiting for it to do so for years. Which is why I’m embarrassed that the damage went so far before I saw it.
It’s those damn little things that if you don’t get to or take a “it’s OK I will deal with it tomorrow” attitude they will come from out of nowhere and bite you in the ass every time. I have found that out a couple of times over the years.
I see LB in the forefront trying to take credit for the discovery. 😉
And now I have a hankering for a tuna sandwich. Must stop reading posts that mention food…
