It took several seconds just to work up the nerve to come back down.

So now that the skin on my stump has regrown and I’m not hobbling around like an old man, it’s time to get back to work on the Lair.
100_5055This morning I took down that second upper sheet to re-work the hole for the small window, then put it back up and cut the smaller sheets to the right.

That side is by no means done, of course. I set up the ladder to secure the top of the second sheet, got halfway up, and just froze. I could probably force myself up it if there was somebody watching, but I’m much less brave alone. It wasn’t prudence, it was pure acrophobia. So I need some help securing that sheet, and then there’s the flashing still to be done. It’s mortifying, but there’s no hiding it: Uncle Joel is cripplingly afraid of heights.

But the siding is up. On that side. Still need to do the front and the other side, but I’m closing in on being able to buy paint. Timeline: I can’t even buy the paint for another week and a half at the earliest due to the debit card issue, but I want to finish the siding and flashing between now and then so I can get right on it.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

“Uncle Joel is cripplingly afraid of heights.”

That actually can be a useful and life-extending phobia. That said, it’s great to see progress. Just be careful!

Don’t fester over it too much, Joel. I hate those heights with a serious passion. And I used to be a house painter at one point. I also did a pretty good amount of roofing in days past. I can assure you, I did most of it slightly intoxicated.
OK….I was usually just a sip or two away from slurring, stone drunk.
