It’ll be even mo’ better when it’s finished…

It occurred to me last evening, as I was settling in with a book before bed, that I’ve created a rather pleasant thing.

I’ve got to haul all this furniture out of here now so I can clear-coat the floor and (soon) get to work on the walls. The bedframe and nightstand is just work, but I’m actually reluctant to move the chair out of there. That corner is a very pleasant place to sit and read in the evening, with breeze through those windows on two sides. Imagine how much nicer it will be with insulation and walls that don’t involve naked studs.

Funny – I’ve lived in the Secret Lair since November 2011, so going on six years. And it never seemed the least bit cramped to me till I kicked out that wall. Now I can’t wait to finish and move into the new room.

That’s a very cozy-looking reading nook. Do you have an oil lamp to hang on the wall there? Maybe it’s just me, but that corner looks like it would be even cozier with an oil or kerosene lamp lighting it.

Just proves you are a middle class schlub like all the rest of us out here in realityville.

Improved circumstances quickly become the new normal…. until the itch starts for the next expansion, say a ham shack with 50′ tower to hold the antennas and the wind generator, or may be a workshop to organize the tools in, Oh! hey, a basement bunker. 😉

Everything looks cozier with oil lamps. But it’s harder to read by.

Actually you’re right, once the walls are done I need to put up a couple of little lamp shelves for Plan C lighting. Which in this case is really the Plan B lighting since I didn’t install any 120v lights so technically in the bedroom there is no Plan A…

Just as well there’s no Plan A. They do say that Plan A rarely survives first contact, so you’ve merely saved yourself from a disappointment. 😉

Well, you could always have a small 120 volt table lamp. What are the chances that the grid might reach the Lair sometime in it’s lifespan?

  6. Joel says:

Unlikely in the extreme, and though I might be in the minority for saying so I wouldn’t welcome it anyway.

But yeah, I could and might still do table lamps and swags.

To the stake with the heretic!
