Maybe the NYPD needs a bullet fee? Get a load of this:
NYPD runs man down, charges his mother for vehicle repairs.
TAMON ROBINSON tried to outrun cops, but couldn’t.
The 27-year-old coffee barista died in April after being struck by an NYPD squad car that began chasing him as he swiped paver stones in the predawn light at his Brooklyn housing project.
Now his mom’s being chased anew, hounded by a collection agency hired by the city with a cruel final demand, the Daily News has learned.
The city has ordered her to pay the $710 cost of repairing the police car that killed her boy.
Okay, the guy was a thief, and for thieves there’s not a lot of sympathy here. If you get hurt or killed it’s on your head. But the guy was 27 years old. How is this his mother’s responsibility? Not to mention the prior harassment…
In a made-for-movie twist, on the day of Robinson’s funeral, cops broke down the door of the family’s apartment — and later acknowledged they had executed a search warrant at the wrong location.
That’s a suspiciously timed oopsie. Could it be the local authoritahs were sending a message to other project residents? New York isn’t the only city where people in the projects don’t have a lot of rights. Considering how “public housing” residents have historically trashed their own taxpayer-supplied homes, I find myself in the odd position of almost feeling sorry for the authoritahs. In this one regard.
Which doesn’t excuse what the cops did here. Geez.

Its a time honored tradition, strongarming the populace. In spite of the fact that it sometimes ends badly, I have long considered that many of these acts are little more than a little ‘Lets show ’em who’s Boss’ wrapped in a thin veneer of government sanction. Thief or not, stealing cobblestones is not a capital offense. However, runnning a petty thief over with a patrol car, then telling the family they have to pay for it, and tossing their house during the funeral sends a clear message- we own you. You will do what we tell you, because you have no recourse. We can enter your lives at will, and end them at our discretion. Now fall in line, citizens, all is well. It’d be a shame if anything around here got broken…
