I’ve figured out what always annoyed me about Star Wars…

In two words, Luke Skywalker.

In over six hours of video Luke Skywalker never once makes a correct decision the first time, constantly whines about how he can’t or won’t do this or that thing that he will certainly end up doing anyway, and whenever he rushes off to do what seems to him the right thing it’s inevitably wrong.

Somehow he wins at the end, but that’s just because the writers are on his side. He doesn’t really have a character arc, just a bunch of things that happen. He’s a whiner at the start, and at the finish. If I were Leia Organa, I’d be distressed to learn we’re related.

So what you’re basically saying is that Luke is like you were a few years ago???

He took after his father and she took after her mother. Her mother = smart woman, stupid choice for the father.

I have that sort of complaint about a lot of fiction I read. I gripe at the characters constantly… until I remember that without the conflict and ongoing idiocy, there probably wouldn’t be much to the story and it would be boring as hell. Who wants to read (or watch) about people who do everything right the first time? Besides, I’d soon get an inferiority complex from such stuff. My mistakes are not of epic novel type, but they do keep life interesting. :)

Nonsense. I’ve never owned a lightsaber in my life. :)

Well, apparently he was such a friggin great Jedi that 30 years later they are still fighting the Empire.

    What a loser.

    And a whiner.

You know, the more you look at it, the better the Empire looks, versus what those sanctimonious Jedi pukes in episodes 1-3 look like.

Makes me think of HArry Potter who, despite being chosen, contributed little in the way of strategy or thought …

  7. Wolfman says:

Han Solo was always > Luke Skywalker. Solo was a self-made man that stepped up and did right for his friends. He shot first when he knew it was necessary, and shot damn fast when things got the jump on him. He landed four shots center of mass on Darth Vader, and that’s when his guard was DOWN. Not his fault that the guy used the Force to suck the beams up. He didn’t whine NEAR as much (although he did try ‘It wasn’t my fault!’ quite a bit). He was a better character all ’round.

To the stake with the heretic!
