Look at all the babies!

I checked the game camera after dumping a bunch of dog food at the watering station yesterday (untouched) and found over 1100 frames recorded, plus a whole bunch of fresh elk sign. So I swapped out the mem cards, pretty sure what I was going to see. No surprises, except apparently this herd had a very pleasant winter because I never saw so many calves in one place.

They hung around for quite a while and I can’t show it all in anything like a reasonable time. So here’s a random block of 50ish frames…

😀 One of them decided to try the waterer out as a wading pool at one point. That’s how float valves get broken, I’d expect…

    Isn’t it moo-cow time now???

The Queen Of The World says you should set out a wading pool and see if the babies come and play in it. Probably not practical but would be fun …

I’m surprised too. The cattlemen never ran herds back here this year even though the grazing is much better than last year. So I moved the camera back to the waterer this month.

As for a wading pool, that might be fun at some remote location where I also preset the game camera. But elk in the Lair’s yard is something actively to be avoided. If you think cattle are destructive…

Cattle and elk may be destructive, but you ain’t lived until you have to deal with ‘coons rampaging on your porch at night. I think I’d rather have a rat infestation. The gang-bangers in LA look tame in comparison. I may soon be in the business of making coonskin caps.

Ya think elk and cattle are destructive?

Just wait until Laddie would catch a whiff of all the elk poo right around his humble abode…
