Making progress, ladies. Keep at it.

chick1So far today the ladies are getting the eggs in the right place. They had an awesome day yesterday, ten eggs total though that count might include some a couple of days old that I found in odd places. Landlady already has two dozen in her fridge, not counting what I’ve eaten.
chick2Brought back some hardware from town on Friday, and yesterday I made some revisions to the watering pail so I can put more nipples in the bottom. The ladies do tend to queue up at the water. Had to move the bucket to the corner nearest the only electrical outlet so I could plug in the aquarium heater Landlady brought up last week. That works great, but standing the bucket on blocks means there can’t be more than two nipples in the bucket.
chick3Atta girl, girl. It strikes me as odd that, in my entire life, this is the most tranquil relationship I’ve ever been in with a female of any species. And there’s a dozen of them! Seriously, with my history this shouldn’t be working so well.

So glad the aquarium heater is doing the job! I’ll certainly try it here once I get my chickens set up. May need a BIG one, however. It is minus 14 now at 7AM, up from -17 when I got up. The front storm door was frozen shut, and I had a heck of a time getting it open so I could let out the dog. It’s been colder here a few times, but this is plenty cold enough.

You would REALLY hate a Wyoming winter. LOL

Oh, lord and I was feeling sorry for myself a while this morning when I came down to greet five above zero.

The aquarium heater would still work for you, though. It’s made for a much larger body of water. Cranked down as low as it will go, it keeps a 5-gallon bucket tepid.
