Meh. Not so bad.

So after all the impassioned descriptions of everything that I was gonna get by being a .44 Magnum shooter with a lightweight pistol, I was expecting…

Yeah, you know that scene in that movie with Loki and Hulk? I figure it’ll be like that, and I’m not the Hulk…

But instead it’s just a pistol, and the ammo is just ammo, and yeah, it recoils. .44 Special is easier to shoot, and accurate in this gun, and so that’s mostly what will get shot.

But y’know what? .44 Magnum doesn’t just put holes in old pallets: It dismantles them. And I find that, even at my age, that also has its charms.

That seems like an expensive and noisy way to make firewood, but whatever works for you is fine with me!

I have fooled with the .44 Mag since the mid eighties. I fired lots of light and heavy loads, in lots of light and heavy guns.Light loads are OK, but a small .45 auto is handier. I have never found full power loads painful, but they seriously disrupt timing and pace. A fast cylinder or two and most people look like Lucy and Ethel at the candy factory. For me a 255gr lead SWC @ 950-1000ish fps is the load. Hits hard, drives deep, nice on the grip end. Of course you can’t just stop and pick up a box of such handy-ness.YMMV.

It sure has a lot to do with grip shape (I’ve read your gun has a very nice grip). I bought a Ruger Super Blackhawk with the 10″ heavy (silhouette) barrel – in a moment of madness. Strangely, that gun kicks way more than my lighter 629 and my Dan Wesson 744. Anyone with an itch for absurdly long SBH’s, let me know. It’s even got a nice tight Belt Mountain pin in it. I’ll give you a good deal on it.

Maybe I should invest in a Bisley grip and hammer for it, and cut it down to a 5″ barrel. Lot of work and money though. Oh well…
