Moving in!

Spent part of the morning over at D&L’s. They’ve been assembling furniture. A lot.

One of the things that always struck me about D&L is that they know where they want to spend money. Unlike me, they carefully planned and financed their move to the boonies. So when they think a tool is important, they’re not afraid to spend money on it. And it shows in the choice of appliances that have been showing up at their new house just lately. Lots of expensive-looking stainless steel in the kitchen. High-tech machines in the laundry room. Over the years before they moved, D made a lot of their furniture himself, and his obsessive interest in cabinetry shows. This place is really going to look nice once everything’s out of the cardboard and shrinkwrap.

I took the day off from the ‘pooter until sundown, because some weather has moved in and the solar panels needed a little consideration if I was not to worry about the batteries tonight. In early October it was looking to be an early winter but lately things have been very mild. But winter’s bound to show its ugly face around here before long, and the weather has been getting a little squirrelly. I broke out the chainsaw for the first time in a month this week, because Landlady’s coming out for a week at the end of the month and her firewood rack was damn near empty. Now it’s damn near full. We’re as ready as we’re likely to get, but the cold can hold off as long as it wants as far as I’m concerned. In fact if it would help us give the freezy stuff a miss entirely, I’d be happy to give Al Gore a VIP tour.
