He figures he still can’t haul the muck wagon around the corrals but he ought to be able to do at least some of the feeding. So I’m skipping the 11am feeding this morning and will meet him at 4. If he can do the feeding while I handle the mucking out, that will speed things up some. And it means I don’t have to go there for about six and a half hours in the middle of the day, which will help my own chores. I still have wood to cut.
We’re already splitting the pellet stove cleaning: I do everything that requires kneeling, and he hauls pellets and scrapes out the fire tray. That speeds my indoor chore a lot. It’s going to be quite a while before either he or L will be able to kneel in front of that stove so I’ll be doing that, at least, for the foreseeable future.
This sounds like definite progress! Needless to say (but I will anyhow) don’t let him overdo it.
Told ya that he would probably recover pretty fast. It will take most of a year to get to the point where you don’t even think about it anymore, but the first and major part of recovery is fairly fast. Raising the stove, even by a foot, would be a big help to the both of you. Maybe D could have a local contractor do an emergency job? Also, please get him a good kneeling pad.
Ps – raising the stove might also have the benefit of eliminating kneeling for either of you. Sitting on a small stool instead would allow D to take over full cleaning sooner, which might be a positive thing for his own attitude. Nobody likes being crippled up and dependent.
That’s good news considering what D&L have been through these days. That whole “getting older” thing is not for the faint of heart.
