Will someone please slip Josh Sugarmann a new talking point? Because this one is really starting to smell, and pieces keep falling off.
Of course the title says something entirely different…
New study shows guns rarely used for self-defense
Which is two lies right there, and we haven’t even gotten past the title. It’s hardly new; Sugarmann has been beating this dead horse as long as I remember. And it assumes that a handgun is only ‘used for self-defense’ if there’s a dead body.
Of the 8,601 total homicides recorded in 2012, just 259 of those deaths were the result of a self-defense scenario, according to the study. There were thirteen states in which zero justifiable firearm deaths were logged that year.
Since these numbers are coming from the “Violence Policy Center,” they’re certainly all tinkered-up lies. But assume for a moment (ha!) that they’re completely straight. What has just been proven?
Out of Josh Sugarmann’s own lying mouth, people who arm themselves for legitimate self-defense actually kill very few people in comparison with the total number of homicides in America.
So what’s he bitching about? He has devoted himself for decades to solving what problem, exactly?

Joel, Joel…you know the answer right down at the molecular level.
He’s bitching, poor snowflake, because rational people simply won’t listen to him. (Not everyone grows out of the temper tantrums of early childhood. Sadly, for them, “we” seem to have specifically reserved positions of power.)
If you read his position and compare it to some fundamentalist bible thumper’s you begin to see it as his religion. Once you recognize it’s his religion, you know reason and logic will never work to bring him and the other followers of his religion back towards center. The only blessing at this point is, he has not become deadly like some other religious nut jobs we have to deal with.
The study clearly doesn’t show how many times guns were used in self defense, just how many times that self defense resulted in a fatality. I’ll bet the ratio of times a gun comes out and the crook is disuaded from his destructive path by the argumentative powers of looking down the barrel of a gun, vs the times that gun actually has to kill that crook because the gun, itself, didn’t convince him is on the order of thousands to one.
So if there were 300 cases of bad guys being ventilated, I’ll bet there were between 3 thousand to thirty thousand cases of bad guys being convinced to leave.
