No, it seems to depend on the square thing. In fact just in October my brother sent me one, a Square Talk, just to see if it would work in this local. It worked very badly at first, then stopped getting much of a signal. A couple of years ago I tried a Freedompop, and it had no coverage here at all.
Ian’s does work, and so does Landlady’s. But they have those odious things called “jobs,” which permit and sometimes require them to get actual smartphones with actual monthly charges. Ew.
