Patreon: All righty, then!

You guys are going to make me work, aren’t you?

There are currently 14 subscribers! Including one $10/month, which brings TUAK’s Patreon income to $43/month. A big help, and much appreciated. But here’s the problem – If we cross $50/month, I have to actually do something.

So maybe it’s time to have that technical discussion – I’ve done a little research into low-end night vision game cameras, and the reviews (and one local experience) are all pretty underwhelming. I’ll have to up my game if we’re going to get any entertaining results.

So I’m now opening the floor to recommendations. Anybody have experience enough with game cameras, that they can recommend a useful model? I’m looking at something like this one, but the customer reviews are not encouraging. No point wasting money on a cheapy that won’t work.

Will somebody please sign up for that last $3? The suspense is killing me. (Actually, given the way Patreon does its accounting, it might take a couple of $3 pledges or one $5 pledge to hit the $50 goal. The subtract their fees before posting the pledge amount.)

I have no recommendation on cameras, but it appears that there are quite a few highly rated ones under $70 and that right now you might be okay not sweating the small differences. Given your harsh climate there you might want to look for one that people say is the most durable in rough conditions.

It says “bullet proof”. I think you and Ian should test that particular feature. Heh.

Good show Claire! Joel is committed now :-)

Maybe AFTER it gets a one star rating???
    ’cause I don’t believe it! :-)

This one shows better 12MP camera vs 6MP and really decent reviews. Yeah, $30 more. Maybe some way to clear that little hurdle too?

Ok– I have 4 wildgame innovations razor X6 cameras for deer and other wildlife. These are not available anymore on Amazon but newer models are available. The Terra 5 and Terra 8 and P6X models on Amazon are less expensive models.I will try to email you some pictures taken with the X6 cameras.

I use Stealth Cam for critter cams (and prowler recordings). So far, they have been durable and reliable.

I bought a Browning Strike Force. I think it’s a 10mp camera. It likes its batteries to be brand new for taking pictures at night in below freezing weather. Maybe that’s why it was on sale. Once we figured out that little problem, it has been a reasonably good piece of equipment.
The only other thing I didn’t care for would probably be listed under operator error. We got hundreds of pictures of a stalk of grass waving in the wind. I set the camera up in the evening and did not take note of whatever else might trigger it besides the rabbit or skunk burrow.

Glad to see this, the Browning Strike Force is one I’m currently looking at.

BTW we’ve hit $50, so I’m officially on the hook. ☺️
