One thing I’ve known all along is that when I got around to siding the cabin, the hoop shed I’ve used for firewood would have to go. Too close to the wall to work around.
This is what’s left with the tarp and the long pallet that served as the rear wall removed.
A hoop shed is very simple and effective, and surprisingly windproof. This one served me for three winters with no trouble at all, though if I can scrounge the fencing I’d like its replacement to be bigger. At 8X4X4+, it holds a fat cord of wood. Since this isn’t Minnesota and winters tend to be episodic, I can top it off at intervals during the winter and it never quite runs dry. I want the next one bigger, though, because I’d like to be able to stand up in it.

The very first sign of progress. Excellent Joel!
So good to know that this is the year your siding gets put on. You and the boys will be more comfortable and use less wood in the years to come. Go Joel!!!
