  1. Edward says:

Most definitely a “Heinz”. From the looks a bit of street mutt mixed with short hair shepherd and who knows what else.

  2. Edward says:

Upon considering the photos in more detail, maybe a touch of greyhound as well. Seems to have longer legs than usual for a mix breed. I would guess he is about 6 years old but a vet can get a more accurate estimate looking at the teeth.

  3. phred! says:

Looks like a Gulchian Shepard to me.

  4. Ben says:

At that age tread carefully before you make the decision that he is there to stay. His behaviour is whatever it is. You won’t be able to change him, and there could be some unfortunate things in his past.

My considered opinion is that he is pure dog.

  5. Klaus says:

Don’t pass on him. Give him the life he deserves, you won’t regret it. We have rescued quite a few dog in the last almost 30 years and no regrets…

  6. Kentucky says:

Have you checked with LB to see if this is OK?

    Good-lookin’ dog, though.

  7. Zelda says:

He may be microchipped – can you get him to a vet who has a scanner?

  8. Joel says:

LB gets a vote. If we can’t find his current owner, we’ll find out how that works out.

I mentioned the microchip thing. L isn’t ready to take him to a vet, so I don’t know what to do about it.

  9. Kentucky says:

If either of you is semi-serious about keeping him, a trip to the vet is in order anyway.

  10. ZtZ says:

What Kentucky said. If L has other dogs it’s probably a sensible precaution to have a vet take a look at this one if he’s in her house and around her dogs because dogs (and cats, gerbils, turtles, pet rats, lizards, horses, miniature pigs etc) carry all kinds of interesting easily transmitted diseases and parasites that she probably wouldn’t want her dogs exposed to. There are good and sensible reasons why animals going from country to country are quarantined. And if he is microchipped a trip to the vet is the quickest way to get him back to his owners. If they want him. And she can ask them to pay for the vet visit to scan the microchip.

  11. Mark Matis says:

As far as what breed he is, I would bet that if you fed him the wrong stuff, he would be a Shitzu…
    }:-]

  12. MamaLiberty says:

Ben nailed it. 🙂 This is 100% pure mutt dog. Will probably be healthier and live longer than many with more identifiable breed characteristics.

Looks like a nice dog, and no long fur! A real win/win.
