Sigh. Bits are falling off my ride.

None of them have worked for a while anyway…

The last I knew, (admittedly decades ago) shocks weren’t all that expensive and are a possible home mechanic job.

  2. Joel says:

Oh, I can replace shock absorbers. I’ve fallen a long way from my ASE Master days but I can still find a way to replace shock absorbers.

Right at the moment, though, I’m informed I have a bit more than $150 in the bank, which is a bit less than I need for this month’s glaucoma meds – which I really need to buy. I won’t be buying any food this month, instead living off what I have stored.

“Not all that expensive” becomes a subjective term as you slide far enough down the socioeconomic ladder. 🙂

  3. Kentucky says:

As I recall, removal of the old ones can be the biggest hassle in shock replacement, but it looks like the job is half accomplished in this case, and at the upper connection which can be the worse one at that.

    ETA: Nevermind! 😉

  4. Joel says:

Actually I still have to remove the upper part. Hoping I can get the bolts out without stripping anything, they’re kind of soaking in WD-40 at the moment.

  5. Robert says:

Could be worse, my personal parts are falling off. 🙂

  6. Kentucky says:

Did they get all rusty first?

    😉

  7. terrapod says:

Shoot – gimme the year of that jeep wanker erm, I mean Wrangler and I will scare up a pair for you. Of course you are going to have to drive slow until they arrive and then get out to the mail drop.

  8. terrapod says:

I am guessing rear shocks from the photo.

  9. terrapod says:

Or do you need all 4?

  10. Joel says:

Thanks terrapod, but somebody else made the same offer a few months ago. Subsequent events suggest I shouldn’t have waited for delivery. I’ll just get some from Carquest as I can.

  11. terrapod says:

Great that you have a solution in the wings.

No worries, As an unreformed car nut spend a lot of time in my shop fixing beaters (2 daily drivers, 2 future restoration projects, 3rd driveable is up for sale and now a third restoration unit acquired where the price at auction was simply so low I could not resist). Nothing in my barn has less that 150K miles on it, some pushing 240K. On occasion i do ask myself if I should dump all and get one new car, but then what would i do with my time?
