So…really smart people are really stupid. Got it.

Who could possibly have seen this coming? I ask you? It’s just so darned unexpected.

UC Berkeley Forced to Cut 500 Jobs After $15 Minimum Wage Hike

If they’d started trimming headcount at the top – where the decisions are made – rather than at the bottom, I’m guessing they’d have needed to cut a lot fewer jobs. But as you can imagine, no administrators were harmed in the making of this disaster.

Damn, that’s almost as funny as the corgi police dog story. OW OW, my sides hurt. LOL

It’s funny, but then it isn’t, especially if you are among the 500. When budget cuts become staff cuts, organizations almost always start at the bottom. That’s why it really sucks to be the janitor.

Still, the math in the article doesn’t work. You simply can’t draw any bright line from the FUTURE (2022) rise of California’s minimum wage to $15.00 to any need for an IMMEDIATE 10% budget cut. Next year’s minimum wage only increases by fifty cents, and wages are only a small portion of the university’s overall budget. So if UC Berkley’s budget needs to be cut by 10%, something other than the minimum wage increase is the culprit.

If you follow the links away from Townhall, Ben, you see that UC Berkley didn’t suddenly become insolvent at the passing of the minimum wage law and things are far more complex than the article I linked – which is essentially an editorial – makes them sound. The college has always been broke, this is just timing. I just thought it was funny.

    There’s always more to the story . . .

One of the worst thing that minimum wage laws do is force business to discriminate against people with limited skills. The fools who push these wage laws down the throats of business owners forget that the business owners are in business not running a charity.

What do you call a person whose labor is worth less then the minimum wage?

    Permanently unemployed.

What do you call a person whose labor is worth less then the minimum wage?

    Democrat voter?

One of the lesser known places to have your photo taken, half way up the west side of Lake Como, is the Driveway where the carcasses in your illustration were found.

It’s even worse that the Monty Python sketch: “‘Eeer! there’s another dead bishop on the doorstep…”

On the subject of progressive era social engineers, minimum wages and who the minimum wages are intended to hurt,

the progs knew exactly who they wanted to hurt and why. Leading British Fabian Socialist, Sidney Webb explains, there are juicy bits right the way through but he really cuts to the chase on page 15 of the PDF
