Some days you just can’t get rid of a bomb.

I was twelve years old when the Batman TV series started, and I don’t think I’d ever heard of the character since I’d managed to go my whole life until then unexposed to comic books. But it sounded really cool – I was twelve – and so though I watched the first episode with great interest I was unaware that it wasn’t to be taken seriously. Confusion ensued. It was apparently also my first exposure to the concept of camp humor.

This is a scene from the very first Batman movie, of course, and they milk it for almost three minutes. This was many years ago, before screenwriters started trying to take Batman seriously. And many years later, whenever I was stuck with some turd of a problem at work I couldn’t shake off my shoe, that pretty much became my tagline.

ETA: Spent so much time looking for the clip, I totally forgot to hat-tip who got me thinking about it in the first place.
