Somebody’s run out of funny sayings.

I don’t actually know where that saying originated. I thought I’d read it in Gates of Fire which has a bunch of paraphrases from Herodotus (the source of our old favorite Molon Labe)but that isn’t one of them and anyway my rememberer is apparently wrong.

Either way, that quote looked funny on a sign that usually shows sayings on the order of “A bad day riding is better than a good day working.”

  1. That’s like the silly, “no pain, no gain” nonsense. Pain doesn’t generally gain you anything you actually want. Best to train for what you actually expect to be doing… and stay the hell out of any battle if at all possible.

  2. Kentucky says:

Lotta that kinda stuff in the ROGUE WARRIOR novels by Marcinko.
