Since lately I have enough ammo components for regular shooting, Sunday mornings have become the time when I try to make a definite point of going out to practice with my pistol.
Ghost knows this routine…

…and when I got back he was under the Lair. Just in case. Gunfire has never ever been Ghost’s thing.
It’s not a very long walk…

That’s the Lair from the 25-yard line.

If a hook for your earmuffs is a regular part of your belt gear, you might be a gun nut.
Unless you hang with Ian, in which case you’re just some guy. Around here we’ve relaxed to the fact that the position of Gun Nut is taken.

Damned windstorm…

There, that’s better.

Wind can’t knock down the metallic targets, though.
We hauled this old fuel tank stand out here several years ago and Ian sprang for some armor plate. I regularly have to repair or replace chains after people practice with rifles, but other than that this arrangement has proven quite trouble-free.

I’ve got range markers at 25, 100, 200, 300 and 400 yards.
I pounded rebar into the ground to support the PVC, and so far haven’t had to replace any after the summer/autumn floods. So far. Occurs to me every time I come out here that a table at the 25-yard mark would be nice, but we don’t have any not being used and anyway this spot is squarely in the path of the floods. We do have one portable shooting bench, but it’s a pain to drag around. You can go a lot farther out than 400 yards, but you’re on your own for range measurement.

A friend of the blog gave me a box of nifty Hornady ammo, and that’s what I’ve been carrying around in the Taurus. But I practice with cast reloads.
And now a bite of lunch, and then off to work at J&H’s place. 🙂
About Joel
You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.
I gotta move to the desert. How’s the canoeing out there? Other than during the flash floods, that is. Is that earmuff belt hanger something repurposed or especially for hanging stuff off yer belt? Looks quite handy.
The hook is marketed on amazon specifically for hanging earmuffs from your belt. Only cost a few bux so I impulsively bought it when I got my new muffs a few months ago and now I just leave it on my belt.
