Ian and Landlady were up at the same time, something I didn’t anticipate. And they came bearing not only care packages from TUAK readers but also a gift…

And it wouldn’t have been the first time the three of us had sat around the cabin shooting the shit but it was the 23rd of June and by the evening the inside of the cabin was stifling. Normally we’d have convened at Landlady’s place, but now the Lair actually has a place where three friends can convene in comfort – if rather buggy comfort.

And we toasted LB and ate sausage and cheese and then got just a bit toasted ourselves and shared tales until darkness drove us on our various ways. An unusually social but very pleasant evening.

You’re making hetmitting aound downright appealing.
Re bugs: not skeeters, I hope.
Bugs or no, sitting around with good friends and catching up over some decent Irish whiskey isn’t a bad way to spend an evening. Given what has transpired these past few weeks the choice of beverage was appropriate I think.
I wonder how stifling the inside of the cabin would have been with a window AC unit. About how many days so far? And what’s the tolerance level by bed time, since that’s the critical part of the day? Of course, when you do screen the porch, the bug situation should improve significantly. So maybe what you’ll really need is a mini fridge, unless you already have one of those. Nothing like having a cold case of beer available when company arrives…
Ummmmm, wait, isn’t The Lair supposed to be the habitat/refuge of a poverty stricken cranky ole desert hermit who lives in tattered clothes and often doesn’t wash? All the recent upgrades are soooooo civilized and upscale The Lair looks like Sundance South. What a total hoot. Joel, are we losing you to the comforts of suburban civilization???
And I’ll bet you needed that, bud.
Actually mini fridges tend to be surprisingly inefficient. I have heard that a cheap hack is to buy a little chest freezer and then set the thermostat above freezing. Otherwise perhaps a small Energy Stat fridge.
Nothin like a good front porch settin ‘ .
