The death of the psychiatric racket?

I have a confession to make. After you hear it, I’ll understand if you never want to talk to me again.

I once regularly went to see a psychiatrist. Stop laughing. I did it at the insistence of my then-wife, who had become convinced that since we didn’t get along, I must be crazy. Yes, I’m oversimplifying that. But I did go. For a couple of years, actually. Paid him out of my own pocket. I didn’t get any less crazy, but sometimes it was kind of interesting.

But here’s my point: If I knew then that “mental health professionals” were required to be part of the gun control “solution,” do you think I ever would have darkened that guy’s door? Because I think probably not.

Nah, we’ll still talk to ya. Mine never asked me. Today I probably couldn’t enter the building because it’s “gun free”.

I know lots of people who found a therapist to be a boon to their mental health, even if they are not ‘crazy’. It seems to me, if people really wanted help people, they would put a time limit on the denial of rights. Make it less threatening to people who need help and more people will seek help. How many vets avoid getting help for shell shock (screw that PTSD crap, I’m with George Carlin on that) because they, rightly, feel their rights will be questioned or denied?

Like everything else, it depends on the “patient” and the shrink. Some people can benefit from therapy, and some don’t. Some people desperately need help because they are unable to live life the way they’d like, and some do it because (like you) they are coerced, or for some other not-so-great reason.

Shrinks can be compassionate and helpful blokes when you find the right one, but it can be hard to find a good one, for sure. Unfortunately, as Obamacare gradually takes over the healthcare system, doctors will become glorified DMV workers who will be all too willing to narc out their patients for all manner of silly things for the “good of the collective”. We live in scary times.

I kind of liked my psychiatrist, she was cute. The other guys thought she was pushy and demanding…
