The desert is blooming…

Nice cool morning for a walkie…

The cliff roses are in full bloom. These are the only really aromatic flowers in the Gulch, so right now everything smells like too much perfume.

The yucca are just beginning to bloom. In a week these flowers will be everywhere.

And these things are underfoot everywhere you look. No idea what they are.

May is my favorite month.

About Joel

You shouldn't ask these questions of a paranoid recluse, you know.

Looking around on the interwebs that last plant looks like Common Chinchweed.

How old is Toby now and will he come directly back if called? I ask because my 2YO terrier absolutely will not listen to a “come” command, following the nose takes over every time. Promise of a treat works about 40% of the time.

I brought Tobie home on May 21, 2021 so he’s more than 2 years old but probably not by a lot. He comes when called when he feels like it and only then. When we’re on routine schedule he’s tractable but our daily walkies are all about his nose: The leash is literally the only way to control him. Once he realizes I can’t physically control him, I stop getting any vote. He might or might not even choose to come home with me. And of course when something off-script happens – like a visitor needs to be greeted or something needs to be chased – I may as well not even be there.

Anatolians supposedly take a long time to mature. I’m hoping we can lose the leash at some point but he’s not showing any sign of it.

Uncle Joel, I’m a daily reader, but somehow I missed that Tobie was Anatolian.
Of course he’s hard to control–he’s a Young Turk!
I know, that’s pitiful. I’ll be here all week–try the veal!
