The Walking Dead

Some friends gave me MP4 copies of this TV show called The Walking Dead, which everybody was talking about a few years ago, and may I just say that if I ever find myself in a group of soap opera refugees like this, no matter the danger and no matter how closely related we may be, I will leave their asses for the zombies in a new york minute. Geez!

How many times, in five seasons, does the expression “Where did [X] go?” appear? Have these people never seen a horror movie? Of course I’d want to wander off from the drama queens myself, so I guess I shouldn’t complain about that part.

Yeah, I know the rest of the world talked this to death years ago, I’m just catching up. I think I have it out of my system now, thank you for letting me vent. 🙂

Just keep repeating to yourself “It’s not about the zombies, it’s about how external circumstances over which we have no control change who we are”. The author’s notes in the first graphic novel (from which the tv series springs) touch upon some surprisingly heavy ideas about self determination and group allegiance and such.

I just read your post to someone whose response was “STFU, it’s the Apocalypse!” Not quite sure how to take it.

Although I can’t stand horror flicks, I was prevailed upon to watch the first episode. I thought it was fairly well written with actual character development, a plot, and um, literary stuff.

The first couple of seasons they have to learn how to survive among the walkers; the seasons after that they have walkers figured out (although they are still a force of nature, there to kill you if you let your guard down) but the survivors now have to learn to deal with other humans.

I stopped watching it after the first season because they were all so damn stupid. I realize that smart people in a zombie apocalypse wouldn’t make such a great show, since none of them would ever get eaten, but come on – “let’s go camp in the woods” doesn’t sound like much of a zombie defense plan.

Watched part of one expisode, that was enough canned dumb for me. If I want to see dumb people wandering in the woods I’ll watch Discovery channel. If I want Zombies, I’ll watch the methheads walking past my house.

Yeah, I’m with Matt. Netflix is playing the earlier episodes now & we checked it out. The canned dumb, in particular the stereotypical idiot female/mother/wife character, was all I needed to see. Shoot those first & I’d reconsider. +1 for the makeup artists & effects crew though.
