Remember that book kickstarter that was hoping to raise $25,000 in a month?
Ian is already obligated to sign almost 700 books and this is only the second day of the month. At this rate that’ll be his new career.
This is a fancied-up specialty book for collectors – I’m not familiar with the genre, and I know Ian is popular among gunnies, but I can’t believe pre-selling more than 1100 books in a day is … normal…
I’m laughing at myself as I type this: I recall a couple of years ago encouraging him to write the book even though the project would never make money, because he’s an authority in the field and the traditional way to establish yourself as such is to publish “the” book on the subject. Collectors still use books, as he knows: You ought to see his library. But the subject was so specialized he should resign himself to pathetic lifetime sales … yeah, never take financial advice from Uncle Joel. :-/

Ian is blowing through his Stretch Goalposts at a dizzying rate! And I don’t even remember him mentioning that all backers will be receiving a genuine coveted First Edition.
Congratulations to Ian, and congratulations to his editing staff.
Gun Jesus has long said that his motivation for Forgotten Weapons, at least in the early days, was to preserve knowledge and history that was being dicarded/destroyed/lost. A very noble and selfless reason. The man is single-handedly creating a video version of some sort of ballistic Great Library of Alexandria. If he winds up getting some personal gain out of it, then he bloody well deserves it.
I wish he had more than just a PO box for his followers to write him. A vendor had a deal on 8mm Lebel ammo a few weeks back and pretty much everyone on the forums and Reddit was saying how they’d love to send him three or ten boxes as a gift but it couldn’t be shipped to a PO box.
Thanks for posting Joel. Have placed my order/commitment for a signed copy, Look forward to this going to print. If you see Ian, ask him if he is considering a French language version, nothing like having a Yankee write French history better than they can. Who knows, this might very well be the start of his next career and that of a certain proofreader.
Over $200,000! This is simply amazing.
