This is the third day Torso Boy has been sick.

…and if his squirts keep up over the weekend, I’m plotting a way to get him to a vet.

I wasn’t particularly worried at first – dogs get the squirts and then they get over it and life goes on. You ought to see the appalling messes LB could make. But TB doesn’t actually seem to be getting over it, and he doesn’t have the opportunities to eat unhealthy things LB did, and yesterday he passed a hairball. He didn’t vomit it, he shat it. Which leads me to wonder what’s going on inside his colon, y’know?

He doesn’t particularly act sick, short of maybe sleeping a little more than usual. He doesn’t have a fever and he’s drinking a lot. But he has lost what little appetite he ever had, and I’m getting worried about him. Unfortunately the closest veterinarian is more than 50 miles away, I (officially) don’t drive, and getting him to a vet will not be trivial. Still, I never stopped kicking myself for not going to more effort to get LB to a vet and I don’t want to be the guy who negligently killed Mama Liberty’s Corgi. So I may lean on a neighbor to take us to a vet.

Good luck to him. You’ll figure a way.

  2. Mike says:

Animals like dogs and cats tent to mask their illnesses. Good call on going t the vet.

Surely D + L will need a vet for their horses sometime soon. While he’s in the neighborhood anyway…

  4. Metronidazole.. aka ‘Flagyll’. Bet he’s got a gut bug thats giving him troubles.

Joel, my terrier just went the same way last week, Sqirts all over the yard and desperation to go out frequently.

Vet said there is some bacterial thing going around and prescribed an antibiotic (injected). Put dog on soft food for a few days and it cleared right up.

Soft food is rice or pasta with an egg in it (all cooked) and for incentive, a can of boiled chicken bits all chopped up fine, had some of that in my disaster stock, it was 4 years past date but nothing wrong with it. Mix it all together after cooking rice/pasta and the egg.

A bit of a pain to make but a batch lasts a week in a handful twice a day. Downside is she likes it and begs for more in place of the hard kibble dog food. Good luck with TB.

To the stake with the heretic!
