…and to tell the truth we’re not the most nationalistic creatures that ever lived. But Kevin makes a good point when he reminds us that maybe Independence Day should have at least a relatively warm place in the hearts of cranky individualists, since it is after all set aside for celebrating the practice of sedition. Which needs a lot of practice, to get all that government indoctrination out of our systems. So set off some illegal firecrackers or something, and run away giggling.
And I’ll add this link to this sophomoric and extremely NSFW video over at Snarkybytes, because it made me laugh out loud.

Ok, that got a chuckle out of me. Thanks, I needed that. I’ve forwarded the link to the U.K. Embassy, just for laughs. I think I’ll grab a coffee and wait for the DHS to show up.
Hee. I doubt any of us are immune to the sophomoric chuckle–somehow it seems like a necessary part of the human condition. 🙂
You know, it occured to me as well: to the extent that people do actually celebrate Independence Day for what it is (as opposed to the transparent extension of “YVAN EHT NIOJ” that it has become), I wonder: is this in fact the worst day of the entire year for “progressives”? After all, it’s hard to imagine a greater repudiation of the authoritarian social designer; it would seem to make the very skin crawl with seething hatred.
Hee.
Oh, look at what time it is. Trigger time!
Fortunately, fireworks are legal for regular folks in TN, so I sat outside last night & watched a duel between the folks on the hill to the west & those on the hill to the east. I’m too damned cheap to buy fireworks, & I’ve got noisemakers of my own–I just have to aim them in a safe direction, & clean them afterward. Might be a good time to try out my new (to me) Yugo M48, though. I understand that they make a most satisfying sound, at least if you’re not in front of them.
I was noticing on the 4th that there wasn’t a single news program that used the word revolution in relation to the holiday.
