So, Joel… Does this mean you are going to blow up the Jeep? 😇

Kidding aside, 20,000 euros for a new battery pack plus labor?

I think I’ll stick with my truck and its internal combustion engine. Worst case, for an engine replacement it’s around $4,000 for a 4-cylinder, around $5,500 for a V6 and $7,000 for a V8 plus labor. And, a used rebuilt engine can be had for less than half.*

Mr Musk doesn’t understand that the first rule of commerce is to shear the sheep, not skin them alive.

Musk only cares about the initial government underwritten sale. Parts and warranties do not concern him a bit.

What got me was it was a new 2013 model. Did it set somewhere for eight years before it sold? Some smells about this story. But I did like the result so I guess whatever.

@paulb. – From what I can find out,* the Tesla was very used and it looks like the previous owner “did a little work” on it, which is something Tesla frowns upon. As for the repair cost, that’s a little fishy too. The repair costs that Musk talked about just two years ago were in the $5,000 to $7,000 range.** I think that the price quoted to the owner was a combination of repair shop markup and Tesla punishing the owner for things the previous owner did.

Mr. Musk understands that, when the gummint makes oil based fuels unavailable, there will still be a demand for personal transportation. And most hive dwellers have no way to stable a horse.

Electric cars will never make it long term. Take the tesla for example. Each tesla has 130 pounds of lithium in the battery.
There are 290 million cars in the USA alone. To replace all of them with a tesla you’d need 37,700,000,000 pounds of lithium.
But that’s the problem, when those batteries wear out you need another 37 billion pounds of lithium or similar replacement material.
It’s not really green is it!!
