…of the eggs coming from the chickens in the Big Chickenhouse and also the Fortress of Attitude. And I have noticed – and commented to Landlady – that the count from her chickens was dropping. Now I know why, of course.

Counts for the past week have looked like this:
3/2, 4/2, 3/1, 6/2, 3/1, 6/2, 3/1, 8/1, 35/2
It did not escape my notice that while both of the 2yo Rhode Island Reds produced eggs most days, only a quarter to a half of the Brahmas seemed to be laying eggs. But it took them so long to come on line at all, I didn’t know how significant it was.
Turns out they’ve been jiving me for what looks like a couple of weeks. Fortunately that’s a cool outside corner, and while some of the eggs might be fertilized I doubt any are rotten.
I don’t remember exactly when I stopped checking for eggs under that shelf where the hens hoarded their secret stash. But yeah, I’ve separated those eggs from the ones designated for other people, and will check them most carefully before breakfast. I don’t mind the occasional bloody yolk, but embryos are gross.

you can test the eggs by floating them. Floaters are too old.

But they’re a delicacy, Joel.
I tried one, once, and once only, in the PI. I’m not a fan either.
