Oregon town seeks solutions to droves of fearless deer
A town in southern Oregon will hold a public meeting to discuss how to deal with droves of fearless deer that wander the streets, occasionally acting aggressively toward residents, state wildlife officials said on Tuesday.
The “Deer Summit 2015” will be chaired on Wednesday by Ashland Mayor John Stromberg as part of efforts to address deer that have stalked people, pawed at them with their hooves and even stomped on small dogs.
“The deer have no fear of humans,” said Mark Vargas, District Wildlife Biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife.
This problem is actually stumping the local solons. Purely out of idle curiosity, I wonder how far Ashland is from Portland?

The deer here have learned to FEAR the sound of my pellet rifle being pumped. They run away now. BWAHAHAHAAH
Luckily, my rifles make no sound at all before being fired. I’ll save that option for “later.”

And this is in MICHIGAN FOR GODS SAKE
Yes, its Ann Arbor which is honestly like part of California transplanted into Michigan, but still…
Ashland. Far from Portland geographically, kissing cousin to Portland yuppily. Ashland is a rich cultural enclave famous for its Shakespeare Festival and all the (truly wonderful) things that go with it, like superb restaurants, specialty shops … and no doubt people who think it’s not civilized to kill Bambi.
In Ithica NY, they decided that tranquilizing random does to perform tubal ligations was the best option for reducing the population while not upsetting the faculty and students of the local colleges:

“Yes, its Ann Arbor which is honestly like part of California transplanted into Michigan, but still…”
I’ll thank you to kindly stop that nonsense!
See, I grew up in California, and where I grew up, we were still carrying rifles up residential streets to pastureland to kill rabbits that were digging holes the cattle were stepping in.
This was until the late 80s when all the EASTERN TRANSPLANTS got voted into power and started trading shit up.
This cancer came from back East and is now rebounding.
Oh, I was doing this about 60 miles due South of downtown Los Angeles.
Dammed Easterner commie swine……..
[Ashland. Far from Portland geographically, kissing cousin to Portland yuppily.]
Now there’s a nice turn of phrase, and 100% accurate. It sure doesn’t fit in with the rest of southern Oregon, where this problem isn’t much of a problem for some reason.
That place is never never land, just like Portland and Seattle
No doubt the locals are feeding the damm things and watch they will want to trap them
Didn’t hornaday turn 17 hornet into a factory number?
.17 is Not legal on deer most places but, deer is tasty on the plate everywhere I know of.
