Took a little vacation from the Internet today…

To fiddle around with things outdoors on this fabulously beautiful day.

Also I spent some time baking bread. I’ve had a sweet tooth lately, so I rolled out one of the lumps and rolled it up with sugar and cinnamon, then glazed the top.

Every time I do this, I remind myself that I really need to research how to make proper sweetbread rather than just improvising like this. But given the expanding roll around my gut, maybe it’s for the best I keep forgetting.

Then this afternoon on the way to look in on Landlady’s chickens, I took a little hike…

The cliff that forms Ian’s backstop is sheer where it faces the wash, but on either side it’s a fairly easy climb.

From there you get a lovely view of the horseshoe turn in the wash. It never ran very heavily this Monsoon, so most of it is green. Usually at this time of year there are big sandy channels where the green washed away.

If you click on that picture you can see Landlady’s house at the far right, looking out over her pretty meadow.

I went up there because I wanted a new “official” Secret Lair photo. Which, now that I look at the words written down like that, doesn’t make a lot of sense. Maybe I should call it the Not-so-secret Lair?

But it’s not the proper time of day. I should try it in the morning, when there’s a little sunlight on the front.
