Sometimes the loudest sound a machine can make is “click.”
Like, when you turn the key to crank the starter, and there ain’t no starter. Check on the gear selector, maybe the problem is the neutral switch. Nope.
I hate electrical problems. I hate trying to diagnose electrical problems. I especially hate climbing around a hot engine when the temp is 90 and rising.
This one turned out an easy diagnosis, though…

Uh oh. Starter cable fatigued apart right at the battery clamp. Suppose I could actually fix this with a torch and some solder. Don’t happen to have any of those things out in the boonies, though.

I do, however, have Gorilla Tape: The Gulcher’s Friend.

It got me home. It really only had to stay attached long enough for the engine to start. What with the way the Jeep bounces around in travel, though, I’ve got a feeling I’ll be futzing with this thing all week till the next time I can get to the auto parts store.

As you mention, I have repaired those with a propane torch and a goodly shot of solder. I assume a “twin lead” connector like that can be rescued in that manner. I’d remove the other lead and strip/clean/solder them both at once.
You likely already know that the other redneck repair for that problem is to loosen the clamp bolt, spread the connector, and then jam the stripped wire in before re-tightening the bolt.
Vice grip. Always keep a pair in the vehicles. Tapes good too…..
Ben, that’s pretty much Plan B, yeah. 🙂
