L came back to the gulch last night with news. Not great news, but not terrible. D is out of ICU and appears to be out of danger though he’s still seriously ill. They found an abscess on his liver, best-guess caused by the bacteria that rampaged through him in the aftermath of a botched extraction of an infected tooth. He very nearly died. They put in a drain, but culture results haven’t been reported as to what exactly they’re draining. His white count peaked at 32K and is dropping but still very high. As of yesterday he was conscious intermittently but lucid when he was. L said his color was better, he was much calmer and taking a little solid food. Even spent some time in a chair.
No word on when he might be released, he’s still in serious condition. So though it’ll be quite some time before he’s back to normal, it looks like we won’t lose him.
