I see this headline and think, “Cool!”
Why living around nature could make you live longer
Because I certainly live around “nature,” and plan to live forever. Hell, I’ll even forgive the writer for working for Wapo, if he’ll deliver on that promise.
Turns out there’s small print, though…
The researchers found that people living in the greenest places — that is, people who had the most vegetation within 800 feet of their homes — had a 12 percent lower rate of mortality from any non-accidental cause than people living in the least green places.

I see lotsa green . . . it’s just not very tall.
RRiigghhtt! Please explain, all those old farts sitting on their three-legged stools vacuuming their rock landscapes in Sun City.
That 12% don’t mean do-diddly-squat if you can’t get out of your recliner to take care of your personal needs.
Yeah, compared to those concrete monstrosities, you’ve still got a lot more green near by. And I’m still going with it’s more of a ‘not sitting on your ass eating fast food all day’ versus ‘magic green stuff’
The trouble with these medical studies is that there always seems to be another one that concludes just the opposite. For example, coffee is good for you, or coffee is bad for you, I’ve read it both ways.
So offsetting your “green space” study, is this one that’s been in the news lately: http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/magazines/panache/loneliness-social-isolation-may-lead-to-increased-risk-of-heart-disease/articleshow/51908211.cms
I guess the reason we’ve never encountered the Amazonian centenarians is that they’re hidden too well in the rain forest.
Absolutely. All sorts of cities hidden in the jungle that no outsiders found – or at least that none reported on.
I read that somewhere, so it must be true.
With all the goodness from that green space you live in there should be a condo/golf course construction boom starting any time now.
