Home just now.[Redacted] [D] on chopper to [large city far away.] Left hip broken, 10 ribs on rt side, broken clavical on right. He’s gonna be laid up for at least 8 weeks.
So that happened.
Y’know, D&L sometimes come across as extremely risk-averse but they sure seem to get injured a lot. Gotta say I do admire their stoicism in the face of pain.
Best of luck to both of them!

Oh, crap… I’m sorry to learn this, as they seem to be good people. I know it’s not much, but please pass on to L my wishes for D’s speedy recovery.
I’m really sorry to hear this! Unless L has family in that big city, this is going to be very expensive and complicated for her.
I predict lots of horse feeding in your future.
Not to be a cynic or anything. But foresee a ‘FOR SALE’ sign at the place of theirs pretty soon.
Ouch! My continued prayers for everyone involved.
Dayaaamn! That sucks out loud! Old folks die from traumas like that, complications, pneumonia, etc. Dayaaamn! Prayers and best wishes.
Your last sentence is dead on. I would add, can you imagine the “true grit” (sorry) of the people who lived there in the 1850s? Falling off your horse could be a death sentence, and then you had to deal with hostiles as well.

Cowboys are different.
Malatrope is right on. Trying to navigate a reply process has become a weird ordeal lately.
Malatrope, Bill, I don’t know what’s going on with the commenting. I don’t see it here and wouldn’t begin to know how to fix it. Sorry – I guess it’s a WordPress thing.
(Malatrope) Well, if WordPress is choosing to shoot themselves in their feet, who am I to slow them down. I’ll just use this format from now on.
8 weeks isn’t horrible considering the amount of damage and Neighbor D’s age. I will admit my first thought was “He’ll be trying to get on a horse after 6.”
Best of luck to him and Neighbor L.
